Counseling Services

Rolling Texas Hill Country landscape under a wide sky.

Counseling for adults in Fair Oaks Ranch and across the Texas Hill Country — Boerne, San Antonio, Bulverde, and the surrounding towns. Sessions are available in the office, or by secure video anywhere in Texas.

The work is Gestalt therapy. In plain terms, that means we stay with what is happening now — in your life and in the room — rather than spending the hour analysing your history from a safe distance. Awareness comes first. Change tends to follow it, rather than the other way round.

Individual counseling

Individual work is a conversation, not a questionnaire. You bring what is actually going on — anxiety that will not settle, a relationship that keeps arriving at the same argument, a life that has changed shape and left you unsure who you are in it — and we stay with it as it shows up.

Gestalt therapy treats your experience in the present as the material. You will not be handed a worksheet or told what your problem is in the first ten minutes. The aim is clearer contact with yourself, so that choice becomes possible where it had not seemed to be.

Couples counseling

Couples work in a Gestalt frame is not about deciding who is right. It is about how two people make contact — and where that contact breaks down into blame, silence, or the same fight on repeat.

We look at what is happening between you as it happens, including in the room. Difference does not have to mean distance. The work is learning to stay connected without disappearing into each other, and without turning every disagreement into a verdict on the relationship.

Personality disorders, including borderline personality disorder

A substantial part of my practice is work with people living with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and related personality patterns. That can mean intense emotions that shift quickly, relationships that feel either too close or too far, a fear of abandonment that never quite settles, or a sense of self that will not hold still.

Gestalt therapy is a good fit for this work because it does not ask you to become a different person on paper. It asks you to notice what is happening in the moment — the surge, the pull toward or away from another person, the story that arrives with the feeling — and to stay with it long enough that something new becomes possible. You do not need a formal diagnosis to come in. If what you are describing fits, we can start there.

I also work with people navigating narcissistic patterns and obsessive-compulsive personality styles, when the concern is how those patterns show up in daily life and relationships rather than a label alone.

Anxiety, depression, and mood

Anxiety often shows up as the sense of being permanently braced for something. Depression as a loss of interest in things that used to matter, or a low mood that will not lift on its own. In Gestalt terms, both are incomplete cycles — energy that has nowhere useful to go, or feeling that has been pushed aside until it hardens into fog.

The work is not to talk you out of what you feel. It is to make contact with it carefully enough that it can move, complete, and leave room for something else.

Addiction and recovery

I am a licensed chemical dependency counselor as well as an LPC, and I work with people in active addiction and in the harder-than-advertised years after stopping. Recovery is not only about the substance. It is about what the substance was doing for you, and what becomes possible when that solution is no longer available.

Gestalt therapy keeps the focus on present experience — craving, shame, the pull toward old patterns, the relationships that have been strained — rather than rehearsing a fixed story about the past.

Grief, anger, and life transitions

People also come in with grief that others expect them to be over; anger and what sits underneath it; work stress; and the stretches where a life changes shape — a job, a marriage, a diagnosis, or the slow realisation that you no longer want what you organised everything around.

You do not need the right words for it before you call. Naming what is going on is often part of the work itself.

Online sessions

Secure video sessions are available for anyone located in Texas. The Gestalt approach travels well over video when the connection is private and stable: we are still working with what is happening now, including how it feels to meet on a screen rather than in the room.

For some people the office is the better choice. For others, video is what makes counseling possible at all. We can sort that out on the free phone call.

Fees and how to start

An intake session is $165. Individual sessions are $145. Couples sessions are $185. I am no longer taking on new clients who want to use insurance, so if you are starting now, sessions are self-pay.

The first phone call is free and carries no obligation. It is a chance to describe what is going on, ask what you need to ask, and get a sense of whether I am the right person for it.
